The Sevenoaks Homeowner Association was formed in 1977, at which time the city required homeowners to be responsible for the maintenance of common areas. In Sevenoaks, our main responsibilities include mowing both sides of the drainage ditch, repairing the ditch liner as needed, maintaining the South 31st Street median, and removing snow on the sidewalks over the Jane Lane bridge. The annual dues are used for the routine maintenance of these areas. Unspent dues are kept in a savings account and CDs and will be used for the eventual replacement of the drainage liner. This will most likely happen as replacement of sections of the liner, not a total replacement at one time.
In addition to the maintenance responsibilities, the Association often acts as the voice for Sevenoaks residents. From time to time the Association takes an interest in issues of concern to the neighborhood. For instance, in 1994 the Association opposed Hy-Vee's plan to build a new store just east of the Sevenoaks and Jamestown neighborhoods. Partly as a result of the Association's activism, Hy-Vee selected a site farther away from the neighborhoods. Also in 1994, the lot at 34th Street and Old Cheney Road was designated as the site for a fast food restaurant. Homeowners raised concerns about potential noise, traffic and light pollution. Because of the Association's involvement, the Williamsburg Village developer responded by attracting a new business to the lot. This is now the home of Cornhusker Bank.
The Sevenoaks Homeowners Association Board is made up of volunteers who work in the interest of maintaining the integrity of the neighborhood. Participation is welcome from any homeowner who would like to get involved with the neighborhood.
